The Founder of The New Seraph Evangelical Ministries Worldwide and Iya Aladura General, Dr Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, has called on religious leaders nationwide to remain non-partisan and protect the spiritual integrity of the church.
She cautioned against using the pulpit as a platform for political endorsements or partisan activities.
Speaking at the eighth edition of the Night of Divine Experience in Ogun State on Friday, Yomi-Sholoye said the church should remain focused on its spiritual responsibility of declaring biblical truths, championing justice and offering guidance to everyone, regardless of political affiliation.
According to her, religious leaders must uphold fairness and neutrality, especially during election periods when political interests frequently seek to influence members of religious communities.
She said, “Religious leaders must preserve the spiritual integrity of the church by remaining non-partisan. The pulpit is a holy place established to proclaim biblical truths, advocate for justice, and offer spiritual guidance to all people, regardless of their political affiliations.
“It must never be reduced to a platform for political endorsements, partisan campaigns, or party propaganda. Our calling as spiritual leaders is to speak truth to power and shepherd our communities with fairness and impartiality.”
The cleric also warned against vote-buying and other methods of inducing voters, urging citizens to base their electoral choices on competence and demonstrated leadership records rather than monetary benefits.
She urged eligible voters in Osun State to carefully evaluate candidates participating in Saturday’s governorship election, pointing out that several of them had previously occupied public positions and should therefore be judged by their records in office and plans for the state.
“Before casting your ballot, thoroughly examine every candidate’s past administrative performance, public leadership history, and proposed plans for Osun State,” she said.
“Every eligible voter should look for competence and past administrative records of all candidates, as each one of them has held different political offices.”
Yomi-Sholoye further urged voters to choose leaders capable of providing effective governance and delivering tangible development for the people.
