Britain and Portugal are set to recognize the State of Palestine on Sunday a Palestinian state, ahead of a key week at the UN’s gathering where a suite of nations are set to do the same to step.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will make the announcement later on Sunday, multiple British media outlets, including the BBC and the Press Association reported.

Portugal’s foreign ministry said on Friday that it would also formally declare its recognition on Sunday.

The prospective announcements come ahead of a UN General Assembly where around 10 other countries, including Britain’s G7 partner France, are also set to recognize the State of Palestine.
