The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four of its members for a duration of six months following an alleged attempt to impeach Speaker Aondona Dajoh on the night of Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The affected lawmakers include Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
A Motion That Rocked the Chamber
Majority Leader Saater Tiseer raised a motion of urgent importance, accusing the four lawmakers of fostering unnecessary chaos within the Assembly.
He argued their actions were destabilizing and warranted immediate disciplinary action.
Soon after the motion was adopted, Speaker Dajoh ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the suspended legislators from the chamber, signaling a swift and decisive response.
With Alfred Berger removed from his role as Assembly spokesperson, the Speaker appointed Audu Elias as his replacement, ensuring continuity in the Assembly’s communications and public interface
