The House of Representatives has demanded urgent security measures in Ifelodun, Offa, and Oyun Federal Constituency of Kwara State.

This comes after a fresh wave of violent bandit assaults that claimed multiple lives and displaced many residents.

Raising the motion during plenary, Hon. Tijjani Kayode Ismail, member representing Ifelodun/Offa/Oyun Federal Constituency, voiced deep worry over what he described as the rising tide of insecurity endangering lives, livelihoods, and schooling in the constituency.

Hon. Ismail highlighted the most recent attack on Sunday, 28th September 2025, in Oke-Ode, where about fifteen people, including eleven forest guards and the Baale of Ogbayo, were reportedly slain by armed bandits.

He warned that the continuation of such violence could spiral into wider insecurity if immediate action is not taken.

“Our people are living in fear. Farmers cannot go to their farms, and entire communities are being displaced.

“This is not just a local issue; it threatens food security and stability in Kwara State,” he said.

After deliberations, the House resolved to sympathise with families of the victims and instructed the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police, and the Commandant General of the NSCDC to increase deployments and conduct joint operations in the affected communities.

The lawmakers also directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to swiftly deliver relief supplies to displaced residents and urged the Federal Government to work with the Kwara State Government in creating a forward-operational base and a lasting security system for the constituency.

Furthermore, the House tasked its Committees on National Security, Defence, Army, Air Force, Police Affairs, and Emergency & Disaster Preparedness to monitor compliance and present feedback within four weeks.

Vanguard reports that the House also observed a minute of silence in memory of those killed.

Hon. Ismail, who sits on several House Committees such as Air Force, Finance, Healthcare Services, and Public Accounts, stressed that restoring calm to the constituency is his highest commitment.

“We owe it to our people to ensure that these killings stop and that those responsible are brought to justice,” he stated.
