Governor Dauda Lawal has unveiled fifty brand-new, luxury eighteen-seater buses for the Zamfara State Transport Company, describing the initiative as a “rebirth” of public transportation in the state and a fulfillment of his administration’s promise to the people.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the buses are air-conditioned and equipped with cushioned seats, seatbelts, reliable suspension for rough roads, and GPS tracking devices designed to ensure comfort, safety, and efficient monitoring of operations.

The statement added that Governor Lawal emphasized the unveiling as a new chapter in Zamfara’s governance, guided by accountability, discipline, and sustainable development.

Government explains delay in deployment of buses

He explained the delay in deploying the buses, noting that previous governments often prioritized ceremonial inaugurations over long-term management of public assets.

“We do not rush where caution is required. The delay was deliberate. We established proper frameworks for accountability and management to ensure these buses serve the public effectively and sustainably,” the governor said, according to the spokesperson.

The statement also highlighted past challenges in public transport, with vehicles often misused or poorly maintained, and noted that the administration has invested in capacity building for staff, including drivers, mechanics, and administrative personnel.

“Our state’s transport system is vital to commerce, education, healthcare, and social life. These buses will improve local mobility and strengthen connections within Zamfara and beyond,” the governor said, as reported by the spokesperson.

Governor Lawal called on residents to take collective responsibility for public property, urging them to protect and properly use the buses.

“A bus scratched, a seat torn, or a window broken is not just a loss to the government but a loss to all of us,” he said, according to the statement.

The unveiling of the buses is part of Governor Lawal’s broader efforts to revamp infrastructure and public services across the state.
