The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has directed that no social activity will be allowed to extend beyond 6 p.m. within its campuses.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Mr. Inya Egwu, the Acting Public Relations Officer of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). The university explained that the decision was prompted by a recent tragic incident on campus.

Reports indicated that a businessman, Chiebonam Nweze, popularly known as Power-Autos, lost his life after being stabbed during the September 12 incident.

Nweze was a guest during a bonfire night organised by the students’ association of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, UNN.

”Henceforth, the UNN management has directed that all such activities must be held strictly during the daytime and under the supervision of the University Security Unit.

”Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m. henceforth,” the management said.

The university management described the incident as regrettable, noting that the bonfire event was taken over by miscreants from a nearby community who turned it violent.

It further reassured the public of its dedication to maintaining safety on campus, stressing that every necessary step will be taken to prevent such occurrences in the future.
