A high-powered committee constituted by Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has embarked on a crucial peace and investigation mission to Edo State following the recent wave of deadly attacks in Uromi.
The delegation, led by the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, departed from Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport on Thursday.
Their objective is to uncover the truth behind the killings, engage relevant stakeholders, and propose long-term solutions to prevent further bloodshed.
In a statement released by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the spokesperson for the deputy governor, it was confirmed that the team includes the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar, as well as key government officials — including commissioners overseeing Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties, and Women Affairs.
Also among the delegation are the Chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area and several senior aides from the Kano State Government.
The mission follows mounting national concern over the violent attacks in Uromi, which claimed several lives and displaced many — among them, residents originally from Kano.
Addressing journalists shortly before departure, Deputy Governor Gwarzo reiterated the committee’s goal, saying:
“Our mission is clear: to investigate, consult, and recommend lasting solutions. This is not merely a fact-finding trip, but a peace-building initiative designed to restore confidence and prevent further violence.”
The violent incidents, which occurred in March, have heightened ethnic and regional tensions. In response, the Kano delegation is expected to hold meetings with Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki, heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and civil society organizations during their week-long visit.
The initiative aligns with the broader strategy of the Northern Governors Forum to address insecurity through collaboration, solidarity, and national dialogue.
