Presidential aide, Daniel Bwala, has dismissed Nasir El-Rufai’s claim that President Bola Tinubu will finish a distant third in the 2027 election.

Bwala described the former Kaduna governor’s remark as a “delusion of grandeur” and argued that El-Rufai has no political weight to back up such statements.

He noted that Tinubu remains firmly positioned as a strong contender, despite El-Rufai’s attempt to downplay his chances.

El-Rufai’s electoral record under scrutiny

According to Bwala, El-Rufai has never won an election on his own strength but only by leveraging the popularity of bigger political figures.

“Buhari’s vote made him governor and re-elected him,” Bwala said, stressing that the ex-governor cannot boast of independent political capital.

He added that when El-Rufai had the opportunity to prove his influence in the 2023 elections, the APC lost heavily in Kaduna, including senate, house, and presidential contests.

‘Political Father Time’ catching up

Bwala argued that El-Rufai’s current political position reflects a decline in relevance.

He described him as a politician suffering from what he called “Political Father Time,” a reference to waning influence after years at the center of power.

Bwala maintained that rather than distracting Nigerians with speculative claims, El-Rufai should reflect on his own political shortcomings.
