The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign 23 suspected internet fraudsters today before Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The suspects were arrested during a sting operation at a hotel located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) premises in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Nation reported that the suspects were among 93 persons apprehended in a sting operation during a pool party allegedly organised to celebrate their illicit gains.
According to EFCC, the party was initially scheduled for two different venues but was moved to the OOPL hotel in a bid to evade arrest.
“Investigations showed that almost all those arrested were indicted for offences ranging from impersonation to identity theft and various forms of internet fraud.”
EFCC disclosed that the suspects already admitted to engaging in various forms of cybercrime.
The agency also emphasised that the operation did not target the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library facility itself, but was focused solely on apprehending the individuals involved.
It added that the arraignment would take place in phases, with the other arrested suspects scheduled ”to be charged soon.”
