The Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71 after a period of illness.
His death was confirmed by Hon. Kabiru Amadu, the lawmaker representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The traditional ruler died at a medical facility in Abuja, where he had been receiving treatment.
A decade on the throne
Born in 1954, Dr. Ibrahim Bello became the 15th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, following the death of his elder brother, Alhaji Muhammad Kabiru Danbaba, who died earlier that same month.
His appointment was made by former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari.
For over a decade, the late monarch served as the custodian of culture and tradition for the Gusau Emirate, playing a key role in community leadership and the promotion of peace and religious harmony in Zamfara State.
Zamfara governor, others mourn revered royal father
Reacting to the news, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal expressed deep sorrow over the monarch’s death. In a condolence message posted on his official social media handles, the governor wrote:
“Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”
“May Allah have mercy on His Royal Highness, the Emir of Katsinan Gusau, Dr. Ibrahim Bello. May Allah forgive him, grant him a peaceful resting place, and admit him into Aljannatul Firdaus. Ameen.”
Condolences have also begun to pour in from political leaders, traditional councils, and residents of Zamfara who regarded the Emir as a stabilising figure during challenging times in the state.
Funeral arrangements pending
As of the time of this report, official details about funeral arrangements have not been made public.
The late Emir’s death marks the end of a chapter in the history of Gusau Emirate, and preparations are expected soon for the traditional rites that follow such a passing.
