The Department of State Services Department of State Services on Monday arraigned a man, Paul Jibrin Oweleke, before the Federal High Court in Lagos Federal High Court, Lagos over allegations that he used social media to call for a military coup to remove President Bola Tinubu from office.

Oweleke was arraigned on a two-count charge of cybercrime and transmitting messages said to be capable of inciting public disorder. He pleaded not guilty to both counts.

The DSS told the court that he used his social media platform “Oweleke TV” to post messages allegedly calling on the military to overthrow the government and replicate events in Burkina Faso.

Prosecutors said the messages were subversive and intended to incite the public, cause disaffection, and disrupt law and order. They also alleged he used the platform to harass and threaten the President, placing him in fear of violence.

One of the exhibits mentioned in the report included the statement: “I Want To Go To school”, attributed to a separate video clip referenced during proceedings.

The prosecution said the alleged offences contravened provisions of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 as amended.

The defence counsel informed the court that a bail application had been filed, while the prosecution asked for time to respond, saying it was served shortly before the hearing.

Justice Akintoye Aluko adjourned the case until June 16, 2026, for hearing of the bail application and ordered that the defendant remain in custody pending determination.
