The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a suspected drug trafficker and recovered 879 parcels of suspected Cannabis Sativa during a raid in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
The command disclosed that the suspect, identified as Umaru, popularly known as Jalo, was arrested on May 13, 2026, while reportedly unloading 18 sacks containing dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa into his home at Yan Shado village in Dawakin Tofa.
This was made known in a statement released on Friday by the spokesperson for the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, officers attached to the Dawakin Tofa Police Division carried out the operation following credible intelligence reports.
The police stated that the raid formed part of ongoing intelligence-driven and community-based policing efforts targeted at dismantling criminal syndicates across the state.
“The suspect was caught offloading eighteen sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa into his residence,” the statement said.
It further stated that a search conducted within the premises led to the recovery of the 18 sacks, which were discovered to contain a total of 879 parcels of the suspected illegal substance.
The command explained that the operation followed directives issued by the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Bakori, to operational commanders to identify and apprehend persons linked to drug trafficking through intelligence gathering and community reports.
The police described illicit drugs as one of the major contributors to violent crimes, thuggery and social unrest within the state.
“CP Bakori reaffirmed the command’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and abuse, noting that illicit drugs remain a major driver of violent crime, thuggery and social disorder in the state,” the statement added.
The commissioner also ordered a detailed investigation to uncover the suspect’s suppliers, distribution channels and possible sponsors.
According to the police, the suspect is still in custody and would be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
The command praised residents who provided valuable information that led to the arrest and encouraged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence on criminal activities in their communities.
In April, the Police in Ekiti State apprehended two suspected illicit drug traffickers in Ado Ekiti.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, disclosed that quantities of illicit substances, including Colorado, Indian hemp, Loud, one POS machine, one Android phone and one power bank, among other items, were recovered from the suspects.
