Gunmen have attacked Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, kidnapping the principal of a secondary school alongside an unspecified number of students.

The incident, according to the Oyo State Police Command, took place between 8:00 am and 9:00 am on Friday at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele.

The spokesperson for the command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the armed men invaded the school premises and abducted some students whose number had yet to be ascertained, along with the school principal, Mrs Rachael Alamu.

The statement read, “Gunmen have invaded Ahoro-Esinele community in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, abducting the principal of a secondary school and an unspecified number of students.”

He added that information from a resident indicated that the attackers also shot a teacher during the invasion.

“The source also said a teacher was shot during the attack, though the extent of the injury has not been confirmed.

“According to the report, the gunmen fled the scene with the principal in her vehicle and escaped into a forest reserve bordering the community.

“Residents said the nearest police station is some distance away, which delayed immediate response,” he said.

The police command added that the Commissioner of Police had dispatched officers to the area for assessment and rescue operations.
