Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai, has been granted temporary release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practice Commission (ICPC).
The development comes following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who reportedly passed away in Egypt after a brief illness.
Sources indicate that the anti-corruption agency approved the release on compassionate grounds, allowing the former governor to participate in burial rites and family mourning.
El-Rufai had been in detention since February over allegations bordering on corruption and money laundering. He was previously arraigned in court, where the case is expected to continue despite his temporary release.
Meanwhile, condolences have continued to pour in from political figures across the country, including Bola Tinibu, who sympathized with the family during this period of grief.
Authorities have not indicated how long the temporary release will last, but legal proceedings are expected to resume in the coming days.
