The United States has announced a $32.5 million food assistance package aimed at supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Nigeria’s conflict-affected regions.
The U.S. Government announced on its official X handle that the newly approved food assistance package is targeted at internally displaced persons living in Nigeria’s conflict-hit regions.
It said that the support would reach no fewer than 764,205 people in the Northeast and Northwest, where insecurity has left many communities vulnerable and in need of humanitarian aid.
“World Food Programme Nigeria, with U.S. Government’s contribution of $32.5 million, will provide food assistance and nutrition support to internally displaced persons across conflict-affected areas,” the statement reads.
“With the U.S. Government’s donation, the World Food Programme Nigeria will provide food and nutrition assistance to 764,205 beneficiaries across Northeast and Northwest Nigeria.
The statement added that the initiative will provide extra nutritional support to 41,569 pregnant and breastfeeding women and girls, as well as 43,235 children, through the use of electronic food vouchers.
