The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Zamfara State has arrested a 25-year-old man suspected of human trafficking and rescued two 13-year-old girls in Gusau, the state capital.

The suspect, identified as Bala Abubakar from Zurmi Local Government Area, was arrested in the Lalan area of Gusau, according to a statement by the state command’s spokesman, Umar Mohammad.

The rescued girls were identified as Amira Baje Ibrahim and Haulatu Shaibu, both natives of Zurmi Local Government Area.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations suggested that the girls were allegedly taken from Shinkafi Local Government Area and transported to meet two individuals identified as Hadiza and Bara’atu, popularly known as Yar Baba, in Suleja, Niger State.

The state NSCDC Commandant, Sani Mustapha, said the operation was carried out in accordance with the corps’ operational procedures and in collaboration with other security agencies.

He ordered the transfer of the case to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and appropriate action.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling criminal activities, adding that a thorough investigation would be conducted and suspects prosecuted where sufficient evidence was established.

The corps also warned that criminal activities would not be tolerated and urged members of the public to support security agencies in the fight against crime.
