The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the military’s commitment to ending terrorism in Nigeria.

He described the recent attacks by ISWAP as a test of national resolve.

Addressing participants at the Defence Headquarters’ psychological operations workshop in Abuja, Musa said the military is adjusting its tactics to reflect the changing nature of modern warfare.

He noted that while terrorists continue to launch isolated attacks on troops’ positions, Nigerian forces have consistently restricted their movements. According to him, the recent reshuffling of command in active theatres is expected to bring in stronger strategies aimed at neutralising insurgent strongholds.

Non-kinetic tactics key to lasting peace, says defence chief

General Musa stressed that restoring peace will require more than battlefield success.

“The threat has gone beyond traditional warfare—it now demands an effective mix of kinetic and psychological operations to shape public perception and deter insurgents,” he said.

Supporting this view, Mohammed Bulama, Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), called for collaborative innovation among security agencies to deliver sustainable peace.

He said resolutions from the workshop must drive proactive communication and influence campaigns across volatile regions.
