The National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has declared the federal government’s unwavering commitment to protecting Nigeria’s digital and physical critical infrastructure from evolving threats.

Speaking at the 2025 Information Technology Professional Assembly organized by the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) in Abuja, Ribadu—represented by Prof. Abdullahi Yau—said President Bola Tinubu’s administration has introduced key policies to fortify Nigeria’s cybersecurity framework.

He warned that malicious actors are now deploying sophisticated tools such as AI-driven attacks and persistent infiltration strategies targeting national infrastructure, and urged for agile, coordinated responses.

“Cybersecurity is no longer optional—it’s central to our survival as a nation,” Ribadu said.

Stakeholders urged to collaborate in fight against cybercrime

Ribadu emphasized that safeguarding the country’s future cannot be left to the government alone.

He called on the private sector, academia, civil society, and international partners to collaborate in strengthening Nigeria’s cyber defences.

He added that the government is investing in talent development, boosting inter-agency coordination, and updating national cybersecurity infrastructure.

Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa, represented by Mr. Olie Frank, also weighed in, urging CPN to eliminate quackery in the IT profession and support regulatory efforts.

In his address, CPN Council President Kole Jagun said the 19th annual IT Assembly focused on strategies to combat cyber threats, fake news, and hate speech while encouraging international partnerships and innovation in local tech development.
