The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that 173,387 candidates will retake the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) due to technical glitches and alleged irregularities.

According to Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB Registrar, a total of 379,997 candidates in the five states of the South East geographical zone and Lagos were affected by the errors. Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

This followed widespread complaints of technical glitches, unusually low scores, and alleged irregularities in the just-concluded UTME.

Specifically, 206,610 candidates in 65 centers were affected in Lagos, while 173,387 candidates in 92 centers in the Owerri zone, covering the five states in the South East, would rewrite the exam.

According to the Guardian, Prof. Oloyede, “who wept profusely, intermittently wiping his face with a handkerchief, said he took full responsibility for the negligence of its staff, revealing that 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres in the Owerri Zone, covering the five states in the South East, would rewrite the exam.”
