Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, says his successor, Senator Uba Sani, was never his friend.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, El-Rufai clarified that although he played a key role in Sani’s rise to power in 2023, their relationship was never one of friendship.
He described Sani as his “boy” and “mentee,” but stressed that they do not communicate.
El-Rufai also rejected reports of a political fallout, saying he remains proud of mentoring people into leadership, but reserves the right to criticize when they go off track.
Ex-governor links Sani to political violence in Kaduna
The former governor further accused Uba Sani of sponsoring political violence in Kaduna.
He alleged that the governor was behind the attack on opposition leaders during the African Democratic Congress (ADC) committee inauguration in the state last weekend.
According to him, there is evidence linking Sani to the attack, which he said he is ready to submit to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other relevant authorities if they choose to investigate.
He lamented the state of policing in Nigeria, alleging that officers stood by while political thugs attacked opposition figures at the event.
The violent incident occurred during the formal inauguration of an opposition transition committee set up by various political parties in the state.
Suspected thugs stormed the gathering, leaving chaos in their wake.
El-Rufai, now aligned with an opposition coalition using the ADC platform, has distanced himself from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He remains a key critic of both the federal and Kaduna state governments.
His latest claims add to a growing political storm in Kaduna, where tensions between the ruling party and the opposition continue to escalate.
