The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced on Monday that 69,376 Nigerians completed their online pre-registration for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise within just seven hours of its launch.

“INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the registration portal, which went live at 8:30 a.m., had already attracted massive interest by 3:30 p.m.”

“Of this figure, 33,803 (48.7 per cent) are male, while 35,573 (51.3 per cent) are female. In terms of age, 48,033 (69.2 per cent) are young persons aged 18–34,” he said.

Olumekun explained that the portal would remain active round the clock and urged eligible citizens who had not registered to take advantage of the opportunity.

According to Daily Trust, “he added that in-person registration would begin on Monday, 25 August 2025, at INEC’s 811 state and local government offices nationwide, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekdays.“

This option, he said, would allow those who prefer physical registration to participate while also enabling online applicants to complete their process.

INEC said it will begin releasing weekly updates on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise from next week, providing detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability status.

The commission further reminded Nigerians that only citizens aged 18 and above who have never registered are eligible to do so. It cautioned against double or multiple registrations, stressing that while such actions are illegal, transfers and the replacement of lost or damaged voter cards are allowed during the exercise.
