The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released former Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, from custody after detaining him for nearly two days.
Tambuwal was taken into custody on Monday after honouring an EFCC invitation at about 11:16 a.m. at the commission’s headquarters.
He was questioned over allegations of fraudulently withdrawing N189 billion while serving as governor of Sokoto State.
EFCC confirms his release
A senior EFCC detective has confirmed that Tambuwal was granted administrative bail after the commission obtained the information it needed from him.
“We’ve extracted what we need from him and he will soon leave our headquarters after perfecting his bail conditions,” the source said.
Next legal steps unclear
The EFCC has not confirmed whether the former governor will face charges or be arraigned in court.
Several calls and messages to the commission’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, went unanswered as of press time.
Tambuwal’s arrest and release have sparked political discussions in Sokoto and beyond, with critics and supporters closely watching the EFCC’s next move.
