The Federal Government has launched a new online teaching programme to expand access to education for pupils in underserved communities across Nigeria.
The initiative, called Inspire Live, seeks to link primary and secondary school pupils with qualified teachers through live virtual lessons.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, said the programme was introduced to tackle the shortage of subject teachers in schools, especially in communities where access to qualified educators remains limited.
He explained that pupils would have the opportunity to attend interactive classes in subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Social Studies, Civic Education, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The minister also noted that recorded versions of the lessons would be provided, enabling students to review previous classes and strengthen their understanding of various subjects.
To improve accessibility, the Federal Government has collaborated with the Nigerian Communications Commission to offer free data to students using the platform.
Meanwhile, the government is also providing support for teachers through another digital platform, known as Ignite, which offers educational resources, curriculum materials and assistance with lesson preparation.
The programme is expected to widen learning opportunities for pupils while equipping teachers with additional resources to improve the quality of instruction.
However, the availability of electricity, digital devices and stable internet connections remains essential to ensuring that pupils, particularly those in rural communities, can benefit from the initiative.
As Nigeria increasingly adopts technology-based approaches to education, the effectiveness of these programmes will largely depend on proper implementation and equitable access across the country.
