Former senator who represented Adamawa North Senatorial District, Elisha Abbo, has emerged as the Labour Party’s governorship candidate for Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general election.
Abbo secured the party’s ticket through a consensus arrangement after receiving official clearance from the national leadership of the Labour Party on Saturday.
His emergence followed his screening exercise conducted at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja about a week ago.
Having clinched the ticket, Abbo is expected to challenge the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Ahmed Galadima, and Aishatu Binani of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in what observers believe could be a fiercely contested governorship election.
Speaking after emerging as the party’s standard bearer, Abbo reiterated his dedication to delivering effective leadership, economic growth, youth development and better infrastructure across Adamawa State.
The former federal lawmaker emphasised the importance of inclusive governance focused on citizens’ welfare, employment opportunities, education, healthcare services and security.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, Abbo expressed optimism about his electoral prospects.
He said, “By this time next year, 29th May 2027, I will be sworn in as Governor of Adamawa State. Congratulate me in advance.”
His emergence is expected to boost political activities across Adamawa as political parties and major stakeholders step up preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
With the Labour Party ticket secured, Abbo is anticipated to commence consultations and grassroots engagement across the state’s 21 local government areas to consolidate support before the governorship election.
