Sokoto State Government, working with UNICEF, has commenced the March 2026 Polio Immunisation Campaign, with plans to vaccinate roughly 1.2 million children aged 0 to 15 months, alongside routine immunisation for youngsters up to 24 months.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Ahmed Aliyu, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Sifawa, restated his administration’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services across the state.

He assured residents that no child would be paralysed by the polio virus, stressing that traditional rulers and district heads must enforce zero tolerance for non-compliance.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar, praised the governor’s backing of the health sector and voiced confidence in the campaign’s success. Similarly, Dr. Bello Muhammad Marnona, Special Adviser to the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, and Dr. Bilyamimu Yari Sifawa, Acting Executive Secretary of the Agency, observed that polio has long troubled communities but is now gradually being eliminated through government and partner efforts nationwide today.

Goodwill messages from representatives of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the World Health Organization, and UNICEF promised continued collaboration to achieve a polio-free Sokoto State.

The symbolic flag-off was carried out by the Secretary to the State Government, with dignitaries including the Chairman of Kware Local Government, Ibrahim Attahiru, the Sarkin Yamman Kware, Alhaji Muhammad Dan Iya Toro II, health officials and development partners present.
