The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has been postponed, just days before the tournament was set to kick off.

The decision, announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the reason for the delay.

The postponement has sparked outrage among fans, players, and officials across the continent. Nigeria’s Super Falcons, one of Africa’s most successful women’s football teams, were expected to compete and defend their title.

CAF has promised to release a new schedule soon and assured that all arrangements would be adjusted to safeguard the interests of teams and players. Meanwhile, training and preparations by the national teams have been temporarily suspended until further notice.

The WAFCON tournament is Africa’s premier women’s football championship and serves as a qualifier for the FIFA Women’s World Cup, making the postponement a major disruption for participating nations.
