Terrorists carried out a pre-dawn attack on the Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, located in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area (LGA) of Kebbi State, abducting a large number of students.
The assault occurred around 4:00 a.m., moments before the Muslim early-morning prayers. According to local accounts, the gunmen invaded the school compound, killing a staff member and injuring a security guard before fleeing with several female students.
Residents of Maga—a community within the Danko Wasagu LGA whose headquarters is in Ribah revealed that the armed group “have not gone far” and may still be within the vicinity. They appealed to both the Federal Government and the Kebbi State authorities to act swiftly to prevent the kidnappers from escaping with the abducted schoolgirls.
Security agencies have not yet released an official statement on the latest mass abduction.
According to reports, Kebbe State has faced a troubling rise in school kidnappings in recent years, mirroring the broader wave of insecurity across Nigeria’s Northwest.
One of the most shocking incidents occurred on June 17, 2021, when attackers stormed the Federal Government College in Birnin Yauri, killing a police officer and abducting more than 80 students along with five members of staff.
