Governor Chukwuma Soludo has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the president’s unwavering dedication to safeguarding a transparent and credible electoral process during the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State.
Soludo gave the commendation on Sunday while delivering his acceptance speech after being declared winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Soludo applauded President Tinubu for upholding democratic ideals, saying the president had consistently emphasized the importance of fair and credible elections.
“With a sense of gratitude to the President and Commander in Chief, I thank President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for being a very true democrat. He has demonstrated very firmly his commitment to guaranteeing a free and fair election,” he said.
The governor also praised the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, describing the poll as the most efficiently conducted in the state since technology became part of the process.
“This is your first outing, and I am very excited that your first impression is a very emphatic one. INEC delivered,” Soludo added.
Soludo, who secured a second term alongside his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, said the victory reflected the genuine will of the people and marked one of the most participatory elections in the state’s recent political history.
“I just came out to say thank you to all of you and Ndi Anambra. This is a moment to say congratulations to Ndi Anambra. You have spoken,” he said. “Four years ago, you elected us with about 112,000 votes. This time, you spoke loudly. This victory is not just a victory; it is history made.”
He noted that about 22 percent of registered voters took part in the poll, describing it as an unprecedented turnout.
The governor also observed that his re-election was only the third time an incumbent governor had been returned to office in Anambra since 1999, adding that he won with an emphatic 73 percent of the total votes cast.
