The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully restored bulk electricity supply to Kebbi State and surrounding areas through the Kainji–Birnin Kebbi 330kV transmission line.
This comes over a month after the infrastructure suffered major damage from two successive windstorms.
According to a statement released by the company’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, power was restored around 12:40 pm on Tuesday, June 18, 2025, following days of around-the-clock emergency reconstruction by multiple contractors.
The crisis began on May 7, 2025, when three transmission towers collapsed during a violent windstorm.
The damage temporarily cut off bulk power supply in the affected areas.
While repairs were still underway, a second storm struck, bringing down another three towers in Galadima Village, Shanga LGA of Kebbi State.
Faced with growing disruptions, TCN deployed additional contractors to the site and escalated the reconstruction process.
“Work was done, day and night, in conjunction with our supervising engineers to ensure the quick restoration of the line,” Mbah said.
She added:
“We sincerely appreciate the patience and understanding of affected communities during the reconstruction period. TCN remains committed to ensuring efficient and reliable transmission of bulk electricity to distribution load centres nationwide.”
The restoration marks a significant milestone in stabilizing electricity supply in the Northwest, where many communities had been running on alternative power sources for weeks.
