The Sokoto State Police Command has paid ₦29.6 million in Group Life Assurance benefits to families of officers who lost their lives or suffered serious injuries while on active duty.
A total sum of ₦29,638,584.78 was disbursed to 10 beneficiaries on Tuesday, underscoring the force’s efforts to assist families of personnel who paid the ultimate price.
The presentation was made on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, Ahmad Musa, by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Umar Sokoto, alongside members of the command’s management team.
Sokoto said the gesture demonstrates the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their dependants, noting that the Group Life Assurance Scheme is meant to reduce the economic impact of the loss on affected families.
He advised the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely by investing in ventures that would ensure long-term benefits and financial security for their households.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hamimatu Ahmad, widow of a deceased officer, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for his compassionate and proactive leadership.
She also thanked the police authorities for their timely support, stating that the intervention would greatly lessen the burden on the families.
The Sokoto State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of serving and retired officers, as well as the families of personnel who died in the line of duty.
