The Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has strongly criticized the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) ban on Eedris Abdulkareem’s controversial song, “Tell Your Papa,” calling it counterproductive and likely to boost the song’s popularity.
PMAN President Pretty Okafor argued that the ban would only increase the song’s virality, stating, “The first major mistake is banning the song because it’s going to make the song even go viral right now.”
He added that the song reflects the harsh realities Nigerians face, and despite its sensitivity, it tells the truth.
The NBC issued the ban on April 9, 2025, citing that the song’s content violated broadcasting standards.
The song, which criticizes Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, calls on him to confront his father over the worsening socio-economic conditions in Nigeria. The lyrics include harsh lines such as, “Seyi, tell your papa country hard… people dey die,” and criticize the government’s handling of insecurity and economic issues.
