The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has named four of its serving governors as potential presidential candidates for the 2027 general elections, signaling early preparations for a major challenge against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described the PDP as “repositioned and ready” to reclaim power, adding that the party has a lineup of capable and performing governors who could represent its vision for national leadership.

The governors named include: Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba State, and Diri Douye of Bayelsa State.

Ologunagba praised them as “highly qualified” and politically grounded leaders who reflect the party’s readiness to offer Nigerians credible alternatives.

The announcement comes just ahead of the PDP’s National Elective Convention, scheduled to hold in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025.

During its 100th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, the party reportedly resolved to zone the 2027 presidential ticket to the South, a decision widely interpreted as a boost to Makinde’s potential candidacy.

“The PDP remains the next natural alternative to the APC,” Ologunagba said. “Nigerians are yearning for a return to the PDP’s style of leadership, and we are ready to offer just that. We are coming out stronger, more united, and more focused.”

He also issued a stern warning against anti-party activities, stating that the party will no longer tolerate indiscipline among its ranks. Members, he said, must strictly adhere to the party’s constitution and internal guidelines.

As the 2027 election cycle approaches, the PDP’s early strategic positioning is expected to shape the political narrative, especially as the party seeks to rebuild its national appeal and regain lost ground.
