The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday declared that the internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has temporarily subsided following the exit of key figures.

Wike made this known during a media chat in Abuja, where he responded to the departure of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the opposition party.

“The crisis in PDP is over for now, because there are still some things remaining,” Wike said, adding that although calm has returned, the party still has unresolved issues to address.

South-South congress must be upheld — Wike

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that for lasting peace to be achieved within the PDP, the party must recognize and uphold the outcome of the South-South zonal congress.

“Our South-South zonal congress that was held must be upheld. There’s no doubt, no two ways about it,” he declared.

Wike noted that the congress held in Calabar produced Chief Dan Orbih as National Vice Chairman and was sanctioned by the court.

Wike challenges PDP governors’ absence
He also took a swipe at PDP leadership for previously downplaying the congress, referencing claims made by the acting National Chairman.

“Now, when we were doing our South-South congress, the acting National Chairman claimed that the PDP governors were not in support of the national congress. Where are the PDP governors now?” he asked pointedly.

“Our congress was held in Calabar and there’s nothing anybody can tell us,” Wike maintained.

Wike issues warning on possible fresh crisis

Wike warned that any attempt to disregard the congress results could reignite internal conflict within the party.

“If they want another round of crisis, so be it. Our congress held and Chief Dan Orbih emerged as the National Vice Chairman from the congress. And the court allowed for the congress to hold,” he asserted.
