The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adeyemo Mukaila, over the alleged defilement of a minor in the Ilupeju area of Ikire, following an incident in which the suspect was reportedly apprehended by commuters who witnessed the alleged assault.
According to the police, the suspect was a friend of the victim’s grandmother, with whom the girl lives, and was a frequent visitor to their home.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Osun State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.
The statement said the explained abuse began in September 2026 when Mukaila reportedly lured the girl to his residence under the pretext of sending her on an errand.
Upon her arrival, the suspect allegedly dragged her into his room, removed her underwear and had carnal knowledge of her.
The police said the suspect allegedly assaulted the minor again on October 2, 2026, which was the girl’s birthday.
According to the statement, the victim, excited about celebrating her birthday, informed Mukaila about the occasion and asked him for a gift.
He reportedly gave her N1,000 but demanded that she also give him a gift in return.
The girl subsequently bought biscuits for the suspect and took them to his workshop in the Ilupeju area of Ikire.
However, the suspect allegedly dragged her into a nearby bush and assaulted her a second time.
The statement said Mukaila fled into the bush after noticing that some passersby had witnessed the incident.
The commuters reportedly attended to the victim and asked her what had happened. After she narrated her ordeal, they pursued the suspect, apprehended him and handed him over to the police.
The Osun State Police Command said the Commissioner of Police had ordered a thorough investigation into the case.
The command also urged members of the public, particularly parents and guardians, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established police emergency channels.
