Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has said he may not be able to join members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council at every campaign venue ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu explained that he would have other responsibilities to attend to while the campaign was underway.
He made the remarks on Wednesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, urging its members to take the party’s message to Nigerians across the states and local government areas.
The president said he had accepted the advice that campaign activities should not interfere with his responsibility to govern the country, noting that Nigeria required considerable attention at this time.
“You advised me not to allow the demands of the campaign to distract me from governance, and I have accepted that advice. Nigeria needs a great deal of attention right now,” he said.
Tinubu asked council members to understand that he might not be able to join them at every campaign venue, citing the government’s financial responsibilities, including obligations to foreign creditors.
He said, “Therefore, please understand if I cannot accompany you everywhere. We have bills to pay, and our creditors in the United States will not wait.”
The president further stated that his administration needed to attract investors prepared to commit their resources to Nigeria over the long term to secure a better future for the country’s children.
He expressed his desire to see investors establish businesses in Nigeria and make investments that would benefit citizens and create better opportunities for future generations.
