The Chief of Air Staff has visited the two Nigerian Air Force pilots who survived Saturday’s jet crash.
The Alpha Jet crew ejected safely after encountering an in-flight emergency during a post-inspection functional check flight at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kainji, Niger State.
The aircraft reportedly experienced a critical fault soon after take-off, forcing the pilots to react quickly, and with notable calmness guided the jet away from residential areas before ejecting, a move that averted civilian casualties.
NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said in a statement on Sunday that the air chief had met the pilots at the hospital and later inspected the crash location.
He said the CAS praised the airmen for their bravery, discipline and decisive judgment, which he noted helped avert fatalities.

Ejodame added that the NAF helmsman also commended the swift, well-coordinated and highly professional efforts of NAF personnel, including Search and Rescue operatives, Fire and Crash Response teams, and medical staff who quickly secured the scene and ensured the pilots’ safety.
“Their dedication, teamwork and sacrifice reflect the unwavering commitment to service that the NAF is known for,” he said.
Air Marshal Aneke has also ordered the immediate setup of a Board of Inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.
According to the NAF spokesperson, the event highlights the intrinsic dangers of aviation operations, especially within military settings where airpower delivery involves heightened flying hours, demanding missions and constant preparedness.
“It serves as a reminder of the courage and devotion to duty exhibited daily by NAF personnel who willingly operate in high-risk conditions to secure the nation.
“These men and women, through their relentless sacrifice and professionalism, deserve the utmost honour and respect,” he said.
