In a proactive response to rising security concerns, especially kidnapping threats in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas bordering Kaduna State, the Kano State Police Command has convened a high-level stakeholders’ security meeting in Faruruwa Village, Shanono.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, aligns with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, on the adoption of community-oriented policing to tackle emerging security threats.

The initiative reflects the Command’s ongoing commitment to partnership-driven policing.

Traditional leaders, LG chairmen, security agencies in attendance

The security meeting brought together traditional rulers, community leaders, security agencies, and the chairmen of Shanono, Bagwai, Tsanyawa, Gwarzo, and Bichi LGAs.

Participants discussed local security dynamics and strategies to strengthen peace and safety, especially along the vulnerable border areas.

Hon. Abubakar Barau, chairman of Shanono LGA, commended the Commissioner of Police for initiating the meeting and pledged full support from the local government.

He also encouraged residents to volunteer credible information that could help security agencies prevent crimes.

Other local government chairmen echoed similar commitments to supporting security efforts in their jurisdictions.

Unity, community support key to peace — District Head

The District Head of Shanono, Dr. Bashir I. Muhammad, called for unity and sustained cooperation among residents. He urged community members to stand by the Police and security agencies in their duty to protect lives and property.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Bichi Area Command, Alhaji Garba Bichi, praised the Police for engaging directly with residents and assured that the PCRC would continue to support law enforcement efforts.

CP Bakori outlines new security measures

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, emphasized that community involvement is essential in modern policing.

He assured stakeholders that the Command is intensifying patrols, launching intelligence-driven operations, and enhancing engagement with communities to prevent crimes across Shanono and surrounding areas.

Following the meeting, CP Bakori visited the Police Girls Secondary School (PGSS) in Shanono to assess the school’s security setup, further reinforcing the Command’s dedication to safeguarding educational institutions.

Pledge to deepen collaboration

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and stability through inclusive security arrangements.

The meeting ended with a joint pledge by all stakeholders to maintain open communication, share vital information, and collaborate in building a safer environment for residents of Kano State.

Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who issued the statement on behalf of the Commissioner, reiterated the Command’s call for public cooperation in its ongoing efforts to secure communities across the state.
