Hundreds of vulnerable individuals, including street beggars and other less-privileged residents, on Saturday received several bags of rice provided through the benevolence of the Aliko Dangote Foundation to cushion the impact of economic hardship.

The foundation’s yearly distribution of food items is primarily intended to assist the poor in supplementing their meals during the fasting period of Ramadan.

Overseeing the distribution of the 10kg bags of rice, a Kano State Government delegation led by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alh. Umar Faruq Ibrahim, alongside other key state and non-state actors, moved through major streets and roads to deliver the palliatives to those in need.

The well-organised exercise, conducted under the watchful presence of journalists and supported by heavy security to ensure orderliness, covered communities within Gwale, Nassarawa, Fagge and Municipal local government areas of the state.

Some of the beneficiaries of the palliatives, including those who had to alight from commercial buses and popular tricycles (Adaidata), expressed overwhelming joy and appreciation for the gesture.

A few of those who spoke with journalists commended the Kano State Government for ensuring a well-structured distribution that delivered the items directly to vulnerable people, unlike the previous practice where the materials were handled by politicians.

Addressing journalists during the exercise, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Danjuma Mamoud, assured that the poorest of the poor and other vulnerable groups across the state would certainly benefit from the palliatives.

Dr. Mamoud stated that the distribution began immediately after the official flag-off at the Government House, adding that the palliatives were carefully shared among vulnerable residents across the state.
