The Kaduna state, Senator Uba Sani has renamed the Kaduna State University Centre for Qur’anic Science after the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
The governor had promised to immortalise the late Bauchi during a condolence visit to his family on December 15.
In a statement by Ibraheem Musa, Sani’s chief press secretary (CPS), the governor announced the development at the Mawlid Nabiy celebration of Fityanul Islam in Zaria, Kaduna state.
“The centre will now be known as the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Centre of Excellence for Qur’anic Sciences and Memorisation,” the statement quoted Sani as saying.
Sani said that his government will establish a foundation that will continue to preach the interreligious harmony for which the late renowned Islamic scholar was reputable in his lifetime.
The governor urged Islamic faithful to be united in devotion and uphold the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), whose message, he noted, transcends boundaries.
Sani commended the leadership of Fityanul Islam for its steadfast dedication to peace-building and social cohesion.
“I also appreciate their prayers and support for our administration and the development of Kaduna state,’’ he said.
The governor reiterated that he is committed to pursuing inclusive, people-centred governance that leaves no one behind in the state.
He also promised regular consultations with Bashir Dahiru, one of the late Bauchi’s sons, on issues that border on Islam and leadership.
According to him, Bashir has also emphasised that selfless and effective leadership are anchored on justice, adding that when there are justice and equity, there will be peace.
