The Kaduna Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project has sensitised residents of Tudun Wada and Rigasa on the implementation of a gully erosion control project to address environmental degradation in the area.
The sensitisation focused on the project’s rollout and its expected social and environmental impacts on households, farmlands and economic trees along the erosion corridor.
Speaking at the event, the state ACReSAL Project Coordinator, Hadiza Halid, represented by Human Resource Officer Nuhu Satuk, said the engagement was part of the project’s Resettlement Action Plan.
“This sensitisation is mainly for those who will be directly affected by the construction. Government will compensate them for anything that will be affected,” Mr Satuk said.
The District Head of Rigasa, Aminu Idris, described the project as timely, noting that the community had suffered years of erosion damage.
“During the rainy season, we lose farmlands, houses and sometimes lives because of erosion. This intervention gives us hope,” he said.
Residents also welcomed the project but called for transparency in compensation and continuous engagement to ensure its success.
