As political alignments continue ahead of the 2027 general elections, former Kano State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed speculations about leaving the party.
Speaking at the 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NNPP in Abuja, Kwankwaso said he was fully committed to staying with the party.
According to him, contrary to widespread rumours, his presence at the meeting was not to announce any defection or new alliance.
“Many people thought today, we will announce whether I will stay in NNPP or go to another party or join some individuals. That was not the intention of the meeting,” Kwankwaso stated.
‘We are not in a hurry,’ Kwankwaso insists
Kwankwaso stressed that he and his supporters are satisfied with the NNPP and are confident about the party’s future.
He said the movement was prepared to engage with others where necessary but would not rush its political strategy.
“We are comfortable, we are happy. We are ready to do whatever it takes, because we are not in a hurry. The members, the leadership, and all of us believe we have something to offer at the highest leadership level in this country,” he said.
He further explained that NNPP’s approach would be collective and inclusive, with fairness and equity as guiding principles.
Kwankwaso also emphasized the importance of building strong party membership and identity.
NNPP to present Kwankwaso as 2027 candidate
The party’s National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, confirmed that the NNPP would field Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate in 2027.
He described the NNPP as the “beautiful bride of Nigerian politics,” noting that the party had become one of the most sought-after platforms ahead of the elections.
Ahmed maintained that the NNPP was not only gaining strength but was also positioning itself as a major force in Nigeria’s democratic space.
