The Federal Government has cautioned that multiple areas across 10 states could witness intense rainfall, possibly resulting in flooding, from April 8 to April 12, 2026.

The alert was released by the National Flood Early Warning Centre under the Federal Ministry of Environment through a flood forecast bulletin dated April 8, 2026, and endorsed by the Director of the Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Bokani.

“The following locations and their environs are likely to witness heavy rainfall that may lead to flooding within the period of prediction: 8th April – 12th April, 2026,” the notice stated.

According to the ministry, settlements in Ebonyi, Anambra, Ogun, Taraba, Cross River, Benue, Imo, Delta, Rivers, and Abia states are among the places expected to witness heavy rainfall that could trigger flooding during the timeframe.

The ministry explained that in Ebonyi State Afikpo and Nkalagu may be impacted while in Anambra State Atani Iyowa Odekpe Odekpe and Onitsha were mentioned.

It further listed Ayetoro and Ilaro in Ogun State Donga Kwata Kanawa Lau Serti Takum and Yorro in Taraba State as well as Edor Ikom and Itigidi in Cross River State.

Additional locations include Igumale in Benue State Nworievbi Okigwe Otoko and Owerri in Imo State Oko Anara in Delta State Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Umuahia in Abia State.

The ministry added that the listed locations and their nearby areas were likely to experience heavy rainfall that “may lead to flooding” within the forecast period.

According to media reports, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the Federal Government had previously issued warnings to farmers against early planting after recent deceptive rains in February and early March 2026.

The Lagos State Government earlier urged residents in March to prepare for heavy rainfall and flash flooding as the rainy season nears.

The ministry advised relevant stakeholders to adopt precautionary measures.
