The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Onoja Samuel, for allegedly entering a market in Kubwa, Abuja, with a pistol after reports that traders had assaulted his wife.

The police alleged that the suspect discharged several shots into the air during a confrontation with the traders, leading to a distress call to the Kubwa Police Division.

In a press statement released on Wednesday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed that the incident took place on October 25, 2026, at approximately 1:50 p.m.

Adeh explained that the police received a distress call indicating that an unidentified man carrying a pistol was shooting indiscriminately into the air at a market in Kubwa.

After receiving the alert, officers from the Kubwa Division were promptly dispatched to the location, where they eventually subdued and arrested the suspect.

“Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as one Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC),” the statement said.

The police disclosed that subsequent investigations revealed that Samuel had visited the market with a pistol after learning that some traders had allegedly assaulted his wife.

The statement said he allegedly fired multiple shots into the air during the subsequent disagreement with the traders.

According to the police, a CZ pistol and 17 rounds of live 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect at the time of his arrest.

Samuel remains in police custody and is expected to be charged in court once investigations have been concluded, the command stated.

Following the incident, FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, urged personnel of other security agencies to remain restrained and maintain proper coordination with the police when conducting authorised operations within the territory.

Sanusi also advised operatives from other security agencies planning approved operations within the FCT to inform the police divisions responsible for the affected areas beforehand.

He explained that the arrangement would promote effective coordination and help prevent unnecessary confrontations between security personnel.

The police further provided emergency telephone numbers for residents to report incidents requiring immediate assistance. The numbers are 08032003913 and 08061581938.
