The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening operational planning and preparing officers for emerging security challenges.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new Land Warfare Wargaming Centre in Jaji, Kaduna State, Shaibu said the facility was built to address the “increasing complexity of modern military operations” and the need for “joint planning, adaptive strategies, and predictive decision-making.”

He said the centre offers a technologically advanced environment that will serve the Department of Land Warfare, Army training schools, and formations in 1 and 8 Divisions.

According to him, it will help officers “sharpen critical-thinking skills and adversary-focused planning capabilities,” in line with his command philosophy.

Shaibu also stressed the need for sustained investment in “high-quality training infrastructure” as global threats become more technology-driven.

Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Alhaji, said the institution must keep pace with modern training trends.

“This centre is timely and reflects our shift toward technology-driven training delivery,” he said.

Conceptualised by the late Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja and completed under former COAS, now CDS, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, the centre is expected to support testing of operational hypotheses, resource allocation, risk assessment, and improved decision-making.
