The Borno State Traffic Management Agency (BOTMA) has concluded a three-day sensitization campaign aimed at reducing frequent tipper-related accidents across the state.

The campaign, themed “Mitigating the Occurrences of Tipper Accidents in Borno State,” ended with a visit by BOTMA’s General Manager, Engr. Baba Shehu Tijjani, to EEC Construction Company Limited along the Mafa–Gomboru Ngala Road in Maiduguri, on Wednesday.

Engr. Tijjani said the campaign reflects the agency’s strong commitment to safer roads across Borno.

He urged construction companies and tipper drivers to “strictly comply with traffic laws” and ensure all vehicles are in good condition before use.

“Only vehicles with functional braking systems should be allowed to operate,” he emphasized.

He cautioned drivers against “using detergent water for hydraulic systems” and warned them not to “drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.”

Tijjani also advised them to “avoid engaging underage or unqualified individuals to operate heavy-duty vehicles.”

He called on operators to “always use good tires,” “cover vehicles with tarpaulins when transporting sand or gravel,” and “obey traffic lights and road signs without compromise.”

Representatives of EEC Construction Company and drivers commended BOTMA’s safety efforts and pledged to “comply fully with the agency’s guidelines.”

They appealed to the Borno State Government to “construct a pedestrian bridge at the Muna Mini Market” to protect people who frequently cross the busy highway.

Engr. Tijjani urged parents to “stop their children from loitering or crossing roads carelessly,” noting that “many road accidents involve pedestrians, especially minors.”

The campaign targeted various tipper unions and construction companies within Maiduguri and other parts of Borno State.

BOTMA expressed optimism that both government and private drivers will “prioritize proper vehicle maintenance, follow traffic rules, and maintain discipline on the roads.”

The agency reaffirmed its “commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to enhance road safety and protect lives and property across the state.”
