Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has commended President Bola Tinubu as the Nigerian Army deployed a “full brigade” and heavy equipment to Kwara South to intensify operations against bandits troubling communities in the state.
Communities in Kwara have faced repeated banditry attacks that claimed lives and displaced several residents.
In a statement on Wednesday, Rafiu Ajakaye, chief press secretary (CPS) to AbdulRazaq, said troops were moving across villages in Oke Ode and Babanla, Ifelodun LGA, while the operation was also extending to Edu and Patigi to search dense forests serving as kidnappers’ hideouts.
Ajakaye noted that AbdulRazaq applauded President Bola Tinubu’s backing and the army’s fresh push to secure the state, recalling that both leaders had deliberated on the crisis when they met in Jos, Plateau State, over the weekend.
“We will not spare any resources in support of the military, DSS, police, and other security agencies as they work to strengthen security of lives and properties,” the governor said while welcoming the army deployment.
“We are upbeat that this operation, as part of the Operation Fasan Yanma, will eliminate all of forms of threats in affected areas in Kwara South and Kwara North.
“I thank the president and the security agencies for the efforts so far. As I said a few days ago, we just need to double our efforts to save the people.
“We are confident that the Brigadier General A.A. Babatunde-led Army Brigade will succeed in this important task and clear the entire areas.”
He further lauded the office of the national security adviser (NSA), the chief of army staff, the general officer commanding of the 2nd division, and other officers for their assistance.
