A 16-year-old girl, Sadiya Suleiman of Sabon Gari Ward, was found dead on 16 November near the New Prison Fence in Gashua.
The victim was discovered in a pool of blood with her throat slit, according to a report received at the Bade Divisional Police Headquarters from Mai Anguwa Idris Haruna of Dadin Kowa Ward.
In a statement signed on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said police detectives immediately mobilized to the scene and evacuated Sadiya to the Specialist Hospital in Gashua.
Medical examination confirmed that she was raped and attacked before being killed.
The Yobe State Police Command has launched an investigation to identify, trace, and apprehend the perpetrator(s) responsible for the crime.
The command has called on members of the community to provide credible and timely information to assist in the investigation.
Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, condemned the act as barbaric and unacceptable and assured that the command will use all necessary resources to arrest the suspect(s) and ensure they face the full weight of the law.
The police also solicited public cooperation to help secure a swift resolution to the case.
