The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the Nigerian military’s determination to flush out criminal elements, including bandits and Lakurawa, from the country.

He said security forces are intensifying operations to ensure lasting peace in the northwest region.

General Musa gave the assurance when he led senior military officers on a courtesy visit to Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.

He praised the Kebbi State government and other regional leaders for their continuous support, particularly in providing logistics and mobility that have enhanced the military’s response to bandit attacks on innocent citizens.

CDS urges communities to cooperate with troops

The Defence Chief appealed to residents and community leaders in Kebbi and neighbouring states to continue sharing intelligence with the military to help track the movement and hideouts of bandits.

“So, Your Excellency, we still need your support as usual to eliminate these criminals from the country,” General Musa said, emphasizing the importance of local collaboration in military operations.

He acknowledged that while progress has been made, more cooperation is needed to ensure that all criminal groups are neutralized across the northwest.

Governor Idris pledges full support for security efforts

In his response, Governor Nasir Idris thanked the Chief of Defence Staff for visiting Kebbi and for attending the 2025 Traditional Rulers’ Assembly in the state.

He commended the military for its various interventions in protecting lives and property across the country.

Governor Idris also praised the swift actions of the CDS and the Chief of Air Staff in establishing new military bases in volatile areas within the state, describing the move as a significant step toward curbing insecurity.

He assured that his administration would continue to collaborate closely with the Nigerian military and other security agencies to restore peace and stability, saying:

“We are ready to give all necessary support in the fight against banditry.”
