Residents of Danrimi in Fagge Local Government Area, Kano State, were thrown into shock after armed thugs, suspected to be local gang members, attacked an Islamic teacher, Malam Kabiru Idris, and his wife in their home.
Speaking to Iconictimes24 correspondent, Muhammad Adam T/Murtala, Malam Idris recounted that the attackers stormed his house while he was asleep, threatening to kill both him and his wife.
According to him, they made it clear that they were not there to steal, but to take his life.
The teacher said he became furious when he realised the thugs were attempting to assault his wife.
“I could not stand by and watch such a thing happen before my eyes,” he said.
He added that he has never been wealthy nor engaged in any religious or political disputes since his youth.
Islamic schools’ association condemns attack
The Kano State chapter of the Association of Islamic Schools and Tsangaya, through its chairman, Malam Kamalu Sa’id Habib Mai Jabbaru, strongly condemned the attack.
He described the incident as a direct assault on one of their members and called on security agencies to intensify investigations to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The association urged the authorities to act swiftly, warning that such acts of violence against religious teachers could create fear and instability within the community.
Police vow investigation
When contacted by phone, Kano Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the matter would be thoroughly investigated.
He promised to provide further details to journalists as soon as more facts are gathered, assuring that the police remain committed to ensuring the safety of all residents.
