The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man identified as Pastor Edwin Nwabueze and his alleged accomplice, Sadiq Jamiu, over their alleged involvement in an interstate vehicle theft syndicate operating across different parts of Nigeria.

The suspects were arrested following investigations into the theft of a Toyota Camry at UTC Plaza, Garki District of Abuja.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the principal suspect, Nwabueze, allegedly identified himself as a pastor with Salvation Power Bible Ministry, located in the North Bank area of Benue State.

The police said Nwabueze, who hails from Oji River in Enugu State but resides in Benue State, was arrested at his residence on October 27, 2026, following sustained and expanded investigations into the vehicle theft.

Adeh disclosed that after his arrest, Nwabueze led police operatives to another location, where his alleged accomplice, Jamiu, was subsequently apprehended.

The police further revealed that preliminary investigations had linked Nwabueze to previous arrests by the Benue State Police Command in connection with vehicle theft cases.

Further findings, according to the Command, indicated that the two suspects were members of an interstate vehicle theft syndicate allegedly specialising in stealing and selling vehicles across different states of the country.

The Command said investigations were ongoing to determine the full extent of the syndicate’s activities and identify and arrest other members who are currently at large.

The police confirmed that the arrested suspects remained in custody and would be charged before a court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The FCT Police Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.

It also provided members of the public with emergency contact numbers: 08032003913 and 08061581938.
